Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s agent, Mino Raiola, has claimed the Swede is a perfect fit for Manchester United.
The 34-year-old has already netted five goals since arriving in July, picking up Eurosport’s European Player of the Month award for August as a result.
Raiola, who also oversaw the transfers of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba to Old Trafford over the summer, believes Zlatan’s presence at Man United aligns perfectly with the club’s rhetoric.
“With Zlatan, he fits the Manchester United brand perfectly,” he said.
“He is the personification of fearless and has that winning mentality combined with class.
“He is 34 but he is the most talked about player in the Premier League. His reunion with Mourinho gives that feeling of “we are Manchester United, now come try to f*** us’!”
The element of ‘siege mentality’ is integral to Mourinho’s approach as a manager. This idea of ‘us against them’ cultivates a particular attitude required by the Special One when it comes to executing his ugly but often effective game plan: a ruthless, martyr-like refutation of anything outside the small 26-player realm, a middle finger to the wall of noise that greets them wherever they play.
Such an approach was employed with great effect under Sir Alex Ferguson, and has been a staple of the beautiful game ever since Uruguay’s historic 2-1 win over Brazil in the 1950 World Cup – the quintessential display of ‘siege mentality’.
And with Zlatan – a man who refuses to accept failure, boisterous and pronounced in his assault of the opposition – leading the line, United fans will hope that such a mentality can germinate at Old Trafford this season.
