Memphis Depay has been left out of the Netherlands squad for their upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Having not played much for Manchester United at all this season, Danny Blind decided not to include Memphis and it’s some more bad news for a player whose had a forgettable start to the 2016/17 campaign.
Daley Blind was named in the squad by his father and he’ll no doubt play a starting role for them as he always does.

To say Memphis’ start has been underwhelming is a massive understatement. Jose Mourinho might not have played him very often but when he’s come on the pitch like away at Feyenoord, his performance hasn’t been good enough. An attempt at a first-time volley against Feyenoord which went 50 yards over the bar summed it all up for him.
What does Memphis need? He needs some confidence and Mourinho has a bit of a catch 22 situation because he’d prefer to play other, more in-form players in his position but the only way Memphis is truly going to improve is by playing games, so it is a tricky one.
There is a danger that Memphis is going to join the pile of players who arrive at United with untold amounts of potential but never fulfil it. Hopefully that isn’t the case but something has to change.
