Ro-Shaun Williams: Timothy Fosu-Mensah the fastest at Manchester United

by Abhishek Chaudhuri

Manchester United’s Ro-Shaun Williams insists Timothy Fosu-Mensah is the fastest young player at the club.

Williams currently holds the 100 meters sprint record at Ashton-on-Mersey School after beating Olympic gold medalist Darren Campbell’s time, but feels there is stiff competition at Old Trafford when it comes to being the fastest player.

There are plenty of quick youngsters at the club, but Williams believes Fosu-Mensah may be the fastest.

“We do speed testing and there are quite a lot of fast players in the squad,” he said.

“Tim [Fosu-Mensah] is fast, Axel [Tuanzebe] and Marcus [Rashford] – all of them are very fast so we have quite a good competition between us. We do it in the gym.

“Am I the quickest? [Laughs] No, Tim is probably the fastest!”

After making his way back into the U18s side following an injury, Williams was part of the mini derby defeat over the weekend.

He has made quite the name for himself and will be hoping to play for the reserves in the new Premier League 2 competition.

United have always been famous for playing with pace and width, something we can look forward to with the likes of Williams, Rashford and Fosu-Mensah coming through the youth structure. As the game is becoming increasingly faster each year, quick defenders like Williams are certainly set for a promising future.
