Ander Herrera put in his best performance of the season in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Northampton Town in the EFL Cup Third Round.
The Spanish midfielder scored Man United’s second goal and set-up Marcus Rashford‘s third which sealed the game in what was an excellent display from a free roaming central midfield role.
It was indeed only against Northampton but Herrera’s consistently been one of our best performers this season whenever he’s played and as far as I am concerned he’s just forced his way into the starting XI to face Leicester on Saturday.

Herrera’s a real gem of a player. He’s got a brilliant rapport with United fans because of his approach and attitude to the game and even though he’s found himself out of the team more often than not ever since he joined from Athletic Bilbao, he’s never let that affect his attitude which is admirable.
He’s tenacious and we need that sort of energy in a team which has looked more than lethargic at points this season. United’s best midfield is something which Jose Mourinho is yet to fully decide on but Herrera would certainly be in mine and judging on his performance against Northampton so would Michael Carrick.
I still think we’re yet to see the best of Herrera in a United shirt and in much the same fashion as Cesc Fabregas dictated play under Mourinho at Chelsea, I’d say Ander can fill that role at United alongside Paul Pogba.
