Manchester United fans were delighted with Jose Mourninho’s decision to exclude Wayne Rooney from his starting XI against Leicester City.
His side tore the champions apart, scoring four goals in the first-half and producing one of the best showings we’ve seen since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
The Englishman has come under heavy criticism after a string of disappointing showings and the spectacular team performance proves what the players are capable of without him on the pitch.
Here’s what fans on social media had to say.
Does this show that Rooney was holding the team back?

Impressive that in Rooney's absence, his positional replacement, captain's replacement and corner-taking replacement have scored four goals.

I know it's easy to pick out Rooney for not being on the pitch for Utd to actual come good, but it is. No slow build up, everything flowing.

Need to bring Rooney on and slow the game down now…

There was plenty of attacking threat against Leicester, the ball moved forward freely and the team looked much more organised with Rooney on the bench.
United played with urgency to win the game and it’s something were not able to do with Rooney slowing down play in the centre of the park.
Mourinho went the perfect way about proving the ability of his side after a few disappointing showings and nailing Leicester into the ground will be a huge moral boost for the players as they head into a busy schedule of fixtures.
