Juan Mata claims Manchester United needed the boost from the 4-1 Leicester City victory.
Jose Mourinho’s side had suffered two consecutive league defeats before turning their luck around at Old Trafford on Saturday night.
He played a vital role in midfield, scoring the second goal of the game and picking up an assist on the third.
Speaking after the game, he claimed the team have proven what they’re capable of.
“I think so. I think we needed something like this,” he said.
“It is true that we came here after two defeats in the Premier League, we won the cup game during the week but we needed something like this, you know?
“There was a lot of talk about the team and we showed today we can do. I think it was a very good first half, scoring four goals, different goals. We showed how good we are.”
Mata was spectacular in the No.10 role and put in a solid argument for permanently taking Wayne Rooney‘s spot in the starting XI.
He was constantly getting the ball forward and hopes are his substitution towards the end of the game was to help keep him fit for Man United’s next fixture.
