Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has shed light on his relationship with Paul Pogba, labelling the 23-year-old as a genius.
The pair wreaked havoc for France at Euro 2016, with Pogba acting as the leading supplier of ammunition for the Griezmann, who claimed the Golden Boot with six goals.
Pogba secured a world record move to Manchester United in the tournament’s aftermath, whilst Griezmann decided to remain at Atletico Madrid amid interest from Jose Mourinho.
Speaking on Spanish radio station Onda Cero, the 25-year-old highlighted his strong relationship with Pogba.
“Pogba and I have brought us closer by the French press. Criticism after the Romania game made us friends,” he said.
“Pogba with the ball is a genius.”
The combination of Pogba and Griezmann precipitates a perfect blend of power, speed and skill. Their styles, whilst different, work together in perfect harmony.
A memorable case in point can be found in France’s 5-2 quarter-final win over Iceland back in July: Pogba ran the game from deep, rampaging forward and launching inch perfect passes all over the pitch, whilst Griezmann (or ‘Gringo’, as Pogba calls him) ran Iceland’s back four ragged, latching onto anything Pogba delivered his way.
Any attacking midfielder benefits from playing with a sprightly, effervescent force up front, and Griezmann’s devastating style seems to draw the best out of Pogba.
