Juan Mata has held talks with Jose Mourinho over a new Manchester United contract, according to reports.

The Spaniard arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 and has made 91 appearances for the club so far scoring a total of 26 goals.

He replaced Wayne Rooney in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Leicester City and put in a stellar performance, scoring Man United’s second goal and assisting the third.

Speaking about his future, a source close to United has allegedly said Mata has been left in the dark.

“There have been talks, but Juan is still in the dark over his future at the club,” the source said.

“He is desperate to stay and likes his life in the Manchester area. It is all down to Jose’s decision now.

“United don’t want to leave this one rumbling though and are keen to sort it before the New Year.”

He was sold to Man United by Jose Mourinho during his reign at Chelsea and the Spaniard’s Old Trafford future has been in doubt following Mourinho’s appointment.

However, Mourinho has shown faith in him so far and Mata will hope his recent displays have persuaded the boss to hand him a contract extension.

Mata has proven his worth in the current squad and fans will be hoping to see him in action in the No.10 role once again once his future has been decided.
