Manchester United face FC Zorya at Old Trafford on Thursday in our second Europa League match and Jose Mourinho is fully expected to make plenty of changes to his side which brushed aside Leicester City 4-1 at the weekend.
But who should he start? Here are three players we think Mourinho must start against FC Zorya.
Blind was nothing short of superb against Leicester City at left-back but I really think Mourinho should start him in a defensive midfield role. For me, that’s Blind’s best position in terms of where he’ll get most game time and we’ll get the most out of him.
Luke Shaw is our first choice left-back and I’d put Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly ahead of him at centre-back, so his options are limited in those areas when all the players are fit and let’s not forget he started his United career as a defensive midfielder. So, I’d like to see Mourinho start him there.
A few years ago if I’d have said Rooney must start for Man United in a Europa League game then you’d have all dismissed it entirely (probably because we weren’t it mainly) but times have changed. Now, these are the matches where I feel Rooney can give us his best football.
Without Rooney and Marouane Fellaini against Leicester, we played our best football this season and that was absolutely no coincidence. Mourinho now knows what United can do without him but that’s not to say he can’t play a role over the course of the season which is why I’d like to see him start on Thursday when we play FC Zorya.
It’s not been the best of starts for Mkhitaryan at United has it? Similar to the early stages of his Borussia Dortmund career, promise and potential has been curtailed by injury woes. However, he’s back in training this week and if he is indeed fit to start then he absolutely should.
Jesse Lingard is a good player in his own right but doesn’t offer anywhere near as much as Mkhitaryan would when he is fully fit and I can’t wait to see him get started properly at United.
