Atletico Madrid striker and Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has revealed he idolised David Beckham as a youngster.
Speculation surrounding a potential move was amplified after French paper L’Equipe claimed it was “only a matter of time” until Griezmann came to Man United.
Speaking on Spanish radio station Onda Cero, the Frenchman admitted his favourite player as a youngster was indeed a United player.
“I wear long sleeves when I play because of Beckham, he did as well and he is my idol,” he said.
“He had a lot of class on and off the pitch. That is what I liked about him. No one had the right foot he had. I’ve never spoken to him but I would like to.”
There are, it seems, plenty of pulling factors when it comes to Griezmann’s possible move to Old Trafford: the likes of Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Morgan Schneiderlin have already formed strong connections with the 25-year-old through the national side; French-speaking players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly would also help Griezmann settle in.
Moreover, the prospect of putting on the same shirt as your idol and stepping onto the same hallow turf is something the Frenchman would find hard to turn down.
