Manchester United fans were left underwhelmed by Jesse Lingard‘s performance during their side’s 1-0 win over Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The 23-year-old, unable to build on a solid performance against Leicester City, was an erratic, wilting presence on the wing all evening, often failing to link up with teammates. He was ultimately replaced after 67 minutes.
Man United fans didn’t hesitate when it came to venting their frustration over Lingard’s muted display.
Fellaini has been good but his postional awareness again is suspect I must say and Lingard is bang average

Lingard having another mare. Rojo is a joke.

The notion that Lingard is an energetic, reliable asset is slowly fading under Jose Mourinho, it seems. One could even say that the Englishman’s presence in the starting XI is justified purely by the occasional moment of brilliance, which in turn masks over swathes of mediocrity.
On the other hand, though, Lingard possesses an attribute that will always shine through, even during abject displays like the one against Zorya: his sheer dedication to the cause. Question his ability, but never question his work rate and passion whenever he steps onto the pitch.
Such an attitude is something that most players – especially with the number of homegrown players rapidly decreasing in today’s modern – never manage to cultivate, and United fans will hope to see Lingard turn that raw passion into effective displays this season.
