Ander Herrera has expressed his delight after receiving his first ever call-up for the Spanish national side.
The 27-year-old was included by new manager Julen Lopetegui after Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Herrera has enjoyed an excellent start to life under Jose Mourinho, and will get the chance to impress on the international stage as La Roja take on Italy and Albania over the next week.
The Spaniard took to Twitter earlier today to express his excitement at the prospect of receiving his first international cap.

This call up to the national side for Herrera is long overdue. Despite struggling to hold down a regular place at Old Trafford since arriving from Athletic Bilbao in 2014, the Spaniard has been a wonderfully consistent threat in midfield, offering muscle and assurance alongside devastating prowess going forward.
Above anything, however, it is his attitude, his sheer dedication, that shines the brightest. It is a rare – and perhaps almost extinct – sight to see a someone push the selfish aspects of the game (money, individual accolades, fame) to one side, and instead focus purely on playing for the badge. His popularity at Old Trafford comes as no surprise, and United fans will hope to see him continue his excellent form on the international stage.
