He made his England debut back in June and scored three minutes into the friendly against Australia, ahead of Euro 2016.
The 18-year-old’s performance persuaded Roy Hodgson to include him in his final 23-man squad and his impressive cameos won over fans.
Speaking ahead of the international break, Rooney insists Rashford deserves to be given the opportunity.
“I think it is important exciting young players to get the rewards they deserve and he deserves it,” he said.
“He’s been fantastic since he got into the Manchester United squad and he has carried that on into this season.
“He fully deserves his chance and if he does get in, I’m sure he will take that opportunity. He has a fantastic attitude, I’m sure given the chance in these two games he will show everyone.”
After being sent down to the England U21s squad last month for his debut, Rashford proved once again he deserves a spot in the squad after finding a brilliant hat-trick.
He has continued to knock down all expectations of himself and Rooney has now backed him to impress if he plays against Malta or Slovenia.
Rashford deserves everything that comes his way, he’s put in plenty of hard work and after doubts surrounding his age, has shown he warrants a place in the side.
