Matteo Darmian‘s agent has hinted the defender could leave Manchester United in January if he doesn’t start getting more game time.
Speaking to Spanish Radio Crc, his agent Fausto Pari revealed United refused offers for Darmian this summer but in the interest of maintaining his place in the national side, Pari hinted that an exit could be on the cards if nothing changed.
“We have to understand Manchester United’s will,” he said.
“Some Italian clubs have tried to take him, but Manchester United shut the door straight away.
“He’s playing little or not at all, which is a shame because of the national team. If the situation doesn’t change we’ll have to think of something in January, he risks losing the national team too.”
I remember how excited I was about Darmian after his first few performances for United. He looked the real deal and I thought we’d finally found a genuine replacement for Gary Neville because he was so consistent early on. Yet, since Arsenal away last year it has been an uphill struggle for Darmian.
Valencia might be doing OK at right-back right now but he’s not a natural right-back, so Darmian does deserve more opportunities but Mourinho is sticking with the Ecuadorian for the time being and also giving chances to Timothy Fosu-Mensah ahead of Darmian.
If he is to stay at United, Darmian needs to fight for his chances through hard work on the training ground but if this season continues how it has started then he may well leave in January.
