Harry Redknapp warns Jose Mourinho Wayne Rooney could leave Man United

Harry Redknapp has warned Jose Mourinho that Wayne Rooney could leave Manchester United this summer if his current situation does not change.

He has come under heavy crticiism following a string of disappointing performances and hasn’t been able to find his feet underneath the Portuguese boss.

Rooney has lost his place in Mourinho’s starting XI as a result and could be set to lose his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad after a shocking performance against Malta.

Speaking about Rooney, Redknapp claims he won’t take being left out for much longer.

Wayne Rooney won’t take not playing at Manchester United for much longer. That situation is going to come to a head sooner rather than later if he doesn’t get back in the team,” he said.

“At the moment, he says he’s okay with it and wants to fight to prove himself but Jose Mourinho clearly has his concerns about him and if that continues he could go elsewhere, maybe next summer.

“Wayne loves playing football more than anyone I’ve ever seen. I know he earns a fortune but he has always reminded me of a kid in the school ground just wanting to play.

“He’s suffered with his form and I hope he revives himself at Old Trafford but if not a change of scenery could do him good.”

He’ll be turning 31 at the end of this month and after decade of top flight football at Old Trafford, would he really have it in his locker to join Arsenal or Chelsea?

Probably not, but a move to MLS or China could be on the cards as he enters the latter stages of his career.

It’s a shame to see a club legend left on the bench, but Rooney is no longer the same player and Mourinho now has other players that have more to offer to the side.
