Lingard played a big role for England and impressed fans with his showings, but was warned for his behaviour after the confrontation in the Slovenia draw.
Herrera on the other hand, failed to come off the bench for what would have been his debut for the national side.
Speaking ahead of the Liverpool clash, Mourinho insists he was proud they were selected.
“I like my players to go to the international teams,” Mourinho said.
“I’m always very proud of my players to be selected. And especially these two that you refer to.
“One was a debutant, the other was a call-up to the Spanish team. It’s obviously important for them and it’s good for me and I think also the club feels proud of it.”
Herrera has once again proven his ability and has managed to cement his place in the midfield role alongside Paul Pogba.
While Lingard, despite making a disappointing showing against Manchester City, has showcased his talent with a spectacular solo goal against Leicester City.
It’ll be a big boost for the pair moving forward and they’ll be looking to keep performing at Old Trafford to keep their spot in their respective national sides.
