Jesse Lingard has revealed talks between players on international duty with England ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool.
There were six players from Old Trafford and Anfield for the Malta and Slovenia World Cup qualifiers and there was no escaping the big fixture.
The Englishman impressed on his senior debut under Gareth Southgate and played a big role in both games.
Despite the importance of the matches, Lingard admits the clash was a big topic amongst the players.
And despite the importance of the national team matches, Monday’s night’s big event was a major topic of discussion.
“Of course we spoke about it and both sets of players know that it’ll be an intense game,” he said.
“I played there last season and it was a massive feeling to be part of the celebrations for Wayne Rooney’s winning goal. I’ve got the experience of playing and winning there, so hopefully I can show what I can do.”
It would have undoubtedly been a big discussion point for both sets of players and the clash on Monday afternoon is set to be massive.
Jurgen Klopp’s side head into the game in red-hot form off the back of a four win streak in the Premier League, while Jose Mourinho‘s squad are looking to get their campaign back on track.
Louis van Gaal managed an impressive record against Liverpool last season, despite being beaten in the Europa League at Anfield in March.
Hopes are Mourinho is able to find the right balance for his squad and build on the impressive showings against Stoke and Leicester City.
