Luke Shaw has travelled with Manchester United for tonight’s game against Liverpool at Anfield.
The 21-year-old hasn’t played for Man United in a month since our 3-1 loss away to Watford and although Daley Blind has been excellent in his absence, we’ve missed the barnstorming runs of Shaw down the left flank.
Whether Shaw is part of United’s match-day squad or the starting team remains to be seen but it’s just excellent to see him at least travel because it means he’s fit to return.
Some fans feel throwing Shaw back in for the first time in a month at Anfield might be asking too much of him as Sadio Mane is going to be a real handful but if he’s fit then I think he’s got to start. We’ll need his pace both in defence and attack because we’re going to have to adopt a counter-attacking style up against Jurgen Klopp’s gegenpressing, so hitting fast out of defence is crucial.
I’ve got Shaw and Ander Herrera down as the two most important players for United tonight at Anfield and I stand by it. If Daley Blind is tasked with playing out on the left, not only could he struggle against Mane’s pace but we’ll miss his calming presence at the heart of defence and for both of those reasons I want to see Shaw back in the team tonight.
