Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs was full of praise for Ander Herrera following the Spaniard’s excellent performance against Liverpool on Monday night.
The midfielder produced an indomitable display against Jurgen Klopp’s side, acting as a confident, calming presence on the ball and a tenacious, warrior like figure whenever Liverpool attempted to burst forward.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Giggs was quick to heap praise on Herrera.
“I played against him when he was playing for Bilbao. He was playing as a number 10. To put in the performance that he did, so disciplined, always in the right place, calming the play down, it was a really good performance from Ander – but also the team defensively.”
Deployed in defensive midfield, Herrera acted as the nucleus of Mourinho’s game plan, placing emphasis on immense dedication, organisation and sheer energy throughout the encounter.
Conjecture prior to the game centred around Liverpool’s seemingly unstoppable front four, and how Man United would most likely fail to deal with the sheer effervescence of an in-form Jurgen Klopp side. As it was, Herrera – almost single handedly – quashed anything that came his way, displaying almost inhuman levels of energy.
It was, in many ways, a captain’s performance from the Spaniard – packed with power and commitment to the cause.
