Chris Smalling believes Manchester United have what it takes to pose a serious title challenge this season.
Man United had a strong start to the season under Jose Mourinho with three consecutive victories, but have dropped out of top four after two defeats and two draws.
Following the 0-0 draw at Anfield on Monday, Mourinho’s side are currently seventh in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Man City.
Speaking about Man United’s title chances, Smalling claims the side are making a turning point.
“I think the fixtures that we have got this week are ones that we can make a turning point this season,” he said.
“We have got a clean sheet tonight which has not happened for a few games. I think we have got more than enough [to cope with others in the title race].
“I think we have shown we can score goals and on nights like this we can keep a clean sheet and not give too many chances to them.
“We can do both sides of the job and it is about consistency now. We need to go on a little run and show people that we are a team that is a threat.”
With United’s defensive unit looking even more solid with each passing game, it’s time for the front line to get to work.
Mourinho will be extra motivated as he faces Chelsea next week and will want to own the bragging rights as he heads to Stamford Bridge as United manager.
