Owen Hargreaves believes Michael Carrick is the player closest to Andrea Pirlo at Manchester United.
The Englishman was started alongside Paul Pogba against Fenerbahce and completely pulled the strings throughout the game.
Short passes, long passes, Carrick dictated the game and has put in a big case for cementing his place in the side.
Speaking during the game, Hargreaves believes Mourinho is trying to find Man United’s answer to Pirlo.
“The player closest to Pirlo is Carrick,” he said.
“When Pogba was at Juventus and at his best that’s what he was doing. Mourinho is trying to find his best partner and Carrick deserves to be in the team.”
Mourinho previously revealed he knows he can rely on Carrick and wasn’t let down as he pun in a stellar performance against Fenerbahce.
While we may not see him in the Premier League with Ander Herrera making the role in the side his, Carrick has shown he still has it in the locker.
With an impressive performance against Fenerbahce, Paul Scholes will be delighted after continuously urging the Portuguese boss to play him alongside Pogba.
