Manchester United have signed former Ajax academy youngster Millen Baars, according to reports from Ajax Showtime in the Netherlands.
Baars, 16, has been without a club since the summer after leaving Ajax but will now join up with Man United’s U18s and will be available to play from January onwards.
Baars will become the third Dutch teenager to join Man United after Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Tahith Chong made the moves in recent seasons. Fosu-Mensah has gone on to earn a new contract after breaking into the first-team while Chong is tearing it up with our U18s in his first season in charge.
For those who haven’t heard of Baars nor seen him play before, here’s an obligatory YouTube highlights reel of him in action:
Having joined up with the same agency which represents Luke Shaw, Fosu-Mensah and Chong, Baars will be keen to follow in the footsteps of Fosu-Mensah into our first-team.
There have been widespread changes to our academy teams including the introduction of new head scout Henny de Regt and our new U18s boss Kieran McKenna. The acquisition of Baars is the most recent in a string of signings as well.
Considered an interesting player who has quick natural dribbling ability, he isn’t as physically developed as some of his peers but Baars hopefully will fulfil his potential in the same fashion Fosu-Mensah did after he joined as a 16-year-old.
We’ll try to find out more information on Baars and bring you a more detailed insight him over the coming weeks.
