Manchester United’s squad has checked into the Lowry Hotel ahead of tonight’s clash with Man City at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup Fourth Round.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is part of the squad which is a real boost, although he does live at the Lowry anyway, but there are some notable names not on the list which weren’t spotted outside the Lowry.
Chris Smalling had arguably his worst performance in a United shirt at Stamford Bridge and he wasn’t seen with the rest of the squad, although that doesn’t necessarily rule him out as sometimes players are just simply not seen.
Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones are also not part of the squad due to injuries but it’s good to see Morgan Schneiderlin is part of the squad. Whether he makes it into the team or onto the bench remains to be seen but his absence is just as much of a mystery as Mkhitaryan’s is, even though he did pick up a small niggle in training.
Here are the confirmed squad members as seen and reported by MEN: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone, Valencia, Darmian, Blind, Rojo, Shaw, Pogba, Carrick, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Mata, Young, Lingard, Memphis, Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimovic, Rashford
United are likely to put out a strong team tonight even though it’s the EFL Cup because we’re playing Man City and Guardiola may well do the same.
We’ll bring you the official starting XI as soon as it is released but for the time being, the early confirmed team news suggests Mkhitaryan will indeed be part of that team to face City.
