Bastian Schweinsteiger sends Manchester United fans a message

Bastian Schweinsteiger has sent Manchester United supporters a message of gratitude after his return to first-team training was met with a rapturous reception.

The German was instantly banished from the first-team by Jose Mourinho in June, consigned to reserves instead as the 53-year-old made it clear that the midfielder wasn’t part of his plans at Man United.

However, after four months of anonymity, Schweinsteiger was reintroduced into the first-team fold earlier this week.

The 32-year-old posted a photo of himself looking cheerful outside Carrington, thanking United fans for their messages of support.

When you consider the fact that United’s underlying issue under Mourinho boils down to a lack of mental conviction within the side (as shown in miserable fashion against Burnley), Schweinsteiger’s reintroduction suddenly seems less surprising.

This is, after all, a World Cup winner, a Champions League winner, a man who has won everything with Bayern Munich. He has been to the very summit of football and weathered the storm. His experience of monumental pressure probably outstrips anybody in the entire squad, and placing him in the dressing room and on the training pitch would, one suspects, allow for an emboldened mental approach to germinate at Old Trafford.
