The Englishman has only featured four times for Man United this season and wasn’t even named on the bench for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Fenerbahce.
With Ander Herrera‘s recent red card against Burnley, the Portuguese boss will be looking to keep Carrick fit to face Swansea City on Sunday.
Speaking about Carrick, Scholes claims he should be in action alongside Paul Pogba.
“He’s played in the cup games, and whenever he’s played they’ve looked a different team, I think they’ve won most of their games with him in the team.
“It’s helped Pogba, a bit of experience next to him.”
Carrick has been incredible in midfield and has done a brilliant job of guiding Pogba, after many pundits have backed him as Mourinho’s closest option to Andrea Pirlo.
At 35, Carrick can’t play each week and it seems Mourinho will want to keep him fit so he can play in the Premier League on Sunday, as Scholes suggests.
