Matteo Darmian opens up about January transfer away from Man United

by Tanveer Arayan

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian insists it’s too early to think about a potential January transfer.

The Italian international signed in 2015 under Louis van Gaal and has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after failing to cement his place in the side.

He was struggling for minutes behind Antonio Valencia and the emergence of Timothy Fosu-Mensah also saw him fall further down the pecking order.

Speaking about his situation, Darmian claims he’s working hard on his career under Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho wanted to cast me out? I’ve read things like that, but I don’t think it’s true,” he said.

“I keep going on my way, working to improve and give the coach a selection headache. I’m not thinking about the transfer window, it’s still too early.”

He did not make a competitive appearance under Jose Mourinho until mid-September, but an injury to Valencia has seen Darmian start the club’s last three games.

Darmian has proven he has more to offer, but he still hasn’t truly found his form from when he first arrived at the club, where he won the Player of the Month award for August.

He has a sensible head on his shoulders and seems determined to work hard on fighting for his place, while avoiding transfer rumours.
