The Frenchman, who returned to Old Trafford in August for a world record £89m fee, has received widespread criticism for failing to display his brilliance on a regular basis.
Pogba made an emphatic response to the wall of noise against Swansea City on Sunday, however, scoring a superb goal and picking up the Man of the Match award.
Speaking after Man United’s 3-1 win over Bob Bradley’s side, Jones – who made his first appearance since January – insisted the Frenchman will continue to demonstrate his worth as the season wears on.
“The guy is an unbelievable player, he’s world class! He needs time to settle in, the price tag isn’t his fault, he’s a terrific player and a great lad. We’ll see more of him this season, I’m sure.”
Swansea’s players will struggle to get the image of Pogba out of their heads after Sunday’s encounter. The Frenchman, buoyed by Michael Carrick‘s presence, was simply everywhere, charging forward at will and spraying passes all over the pitch. It was complete domination; perhaps more importantly, though, it was a sign of things to come.
Make no mistake, United went up against a truly confidence-sapped Swansea side, and bigger tests will come. But Pogba has shown that he can live up to the lofty standards placed on his shoulders, and United fans will hope to see the 23-year-old replicate such levels of brilliance as the season wears on.
