Angel Gomes’ father has admitted other clubs have approached him about his son but admits Angel has a dream to play for Manchester United.
The 16-year-old has become one of academy’s most exciting players having broken through into the U18s last year, although he did make an appearance as a substitute in the previous campaign also.
With three goals and six assists in 10 starts during his breakthrough campaign at U18s level in 2015/16, Gomes has already bettered that record with six goals and six assists in nine starts under Kieran McKenna in a free-scoring U18s side.
That sort of form has turned the heads of lots of clubs but despite growing interest, his father Gil said there’s only one ambition of his at the moment.
“The important thing is that Angel continues to have all this pleasure in playing football,” he told A Bola.
“I don’t deny that many clubs ask me about him, but that’s what he always says…the next dream is to play for Manchester United’s first team, a club where he has been growing.”
Gomes also captained England’s U17s last month when they smashed Germany 8-1 and he is without doubt one of the most exciting prospects in English football.
The fact we are even talking about at him so often at such a young age is testament to how much he has stood out throughout the early stages of his career. Gomes has a real star quality about him and that’s why clubs such as Barcelona are sniffing around so much.
With the likes of Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah breaking into Man United’s first-team at the age of 18, Gomes will be eager to follow in their footsteps and he’s certainly going the right way about it with some consistently fantastic performances at every level he plays.
Every so often there is a player in an academy side who has the hallmarks of a star right from the beginning of his career and the early indications are that Gomes is one of those special little players.
