Ander Herrera makes senior Spain debut against England at Wembley

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United fans were absolutely delighted for Ander Herrera tonight after he came on for Spain to make his senior debut.

Herrera was a substitute in the second half and it marks a huge step in his career, something which he has been waiting for since winning the U21s European Championships with Spain in 2011 alongside David de Gea and Juan Mata.

He’s become a crucial player under Jose Mourinho at Man United and this significant milestone with Spain is something that will be driving him to become even better this season.

Here’s what United fans said to celebrate Herrera’s debut:

I’m buzzing for Herrera. He’s been working towards this Spain debut for such a long time and it was Mourinho’s decision to use him more as a defensive midfielder which gave him the recognition he needed – congratulations Ander.

It’s been an excellent season so far for Herrera because Mourinho has finally given him a consistent run of games, something which Louis van Gaal didn’t do enough. He’s taken that opportunity and grabbed it with both hands, so much so that he’s now indispensable for Man United.

Next up is Arsenal on Saturday and I’m hoping to see a midfield trio of Herrera, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba. With those in the side, I’d be confident of a win.
