Manchester United players all smiles at Carrington training for Arsenal

Manchester United’s first-team squad were in good spirits ahead of their clash with Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

A win for Jose Mourinho‘s men would take them – for a few hours, at least – within five points of leaders Liverpool and three points off fourth spot.

Mourinho will renew his notorious rivalry with Arsene Wenger, who has failed to beat the Special One in thirteen attempts.

Man United players were all smiles during training earlier this week, with Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Matteo Darmian taking some time out to pose with singer and United fan Olly Murs.

Chris Smalling, an indomitable force during last season’s 3-2 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford, remains a doubt for Saturday’s clash, and Mourinho – who publicly lambasted the centre-back’s attitude following the 3-1 win over Swansea – could leave the Englishman out.

In his place will be Phil Jones, who made his first start since January 2 against Swansea earlier this month. The 24-year-old put in a surprisingly composed, indomitable performance, and his raw aggression could be useful when combating the effervescent Alexis Sanchez.

United fans will be hopeful to see Carrick – a central component to the win over Swansea – receive a chance to feature from the start against Wenger’s men.
