Wayne Rooney could lose his England captaincy following his drunken antics at a London wedding last weekend, according to reports.

Reports claim Rooney defied manager Gareth Southgate by returning to the wedding party after being instructed to head to bed after his injury news.

The England boss is set to cast Rooney aside once he is confirmed as England’s permanent manager at the end of the month.

Although Rooney has issued an apology for his actions, it seems his international career is now in jeopardy.

Rooney has made a total of 119 appearances for the national side, scoring 53 goals throughout his international career and he should have known what was expected of him, especially as he finds himself at a difficult time in his career.

After losing his automatic starter status for club and country in recent times he should be working hard for his place in the first-team, but his actions won’t sit well with either Southgate or Jose Mourinho.

He is expected to be passed fit for Man United’s clash with Arsenal on Saturday, but he’s set for a bench spell at Old Trafford after Mourinho was left unimpressed by his actions.

As a captain for both sides, he is a role model for the youngsters coming through the ranks and Mourinho could follow in Southgate’s path, taking his reduced role at Old Trafford into account.
