Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal: Player Ratings

by Leo Nieboer

David de Gea 6 – Decent performance from the Spaniard but was beat late on as Giroud clawed back a late goal to cause an upset at Old Trafford.

Matteo Darmian 6 – Put in a busy, hard-working performance on the left hand side but occasionally lacked discipline, making several clumsy fouls.

Marcos Rojo 7 – Wonderfully solid throughout the game. Expertly dealt with the movement of Alexis Sanchez all afternoon.

Phil Jones 7 – Another indomitable performance from the Englishman. Amazingly energetic for somebody making just their second start of the season.

Antonio Valencia 9 – Recovers from a broken arm in just three weeks and then delivers a performance like that: energetic, powerful and untouchable. Pulled apart Nacho Monreal all game. Simply sensational from the Ecuadorian.

Michael Carrick 7 – A characteristically controlled, dictatorial performance. Acted as the heart of a powerful, assured performance from the home side.

Paul Pogba 7 – Carrick’s presence gave the Frenchman license to pour forward and provide numerous problems. Wonderfully precise and accurate with his passing.

Ander Herrera 7 – Tenacious, unyielding and packed with passion: a trademark Herrera performance in a game that required it.

Juan Mata 8 – Once again a quietly effervescent figure on the right hand side. Worked brilliantly alongside Valencia and took his goal incredibly well.

Anthony Martial 5 – Struggled to take of a potential weak spot in Carl Jenkinson, notably lacking confidence on the ball. Replaced for Rooney after 61 minutes.

Marcus Rashford 6 – Gave an important alternative dynamic to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at No.9, providing pace and attacking threat moving forward.
