Jamie Redknapp has slammed Marcus Rashford claiming he let Manchester United down with his role against Arsenal.
Man United were on their way to claim all three points through Juan Mata‘s goal, but Olivier Giroud’s late header equalised the score.
Rashford was easily beaten by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the wing in the build up to the goal and Redknapp claims Mourinho will not be happy with his defending.
“When the manager entrusts you to play in a left-hand side role, whether you’re a centre forward or not you’ve got to do better.
“First of all he doesn’t get out to Chamberlain quick enough. He lets him run at him and pick up pace. That is the wrong body shape, he gets beaten miles too easy.
“When you’re hanging on for dear life to win a game, I think that’s poor play.
“I think Marcus Rashford didn’t do enough and I’ll be amazed if [Mourinho’s] not telling him that in the dressing room.
“Whatever position you play in the pitch, when you’re hanging on for a win with two or three minutes to go, you’ve got to do a job for your team and he didn’t do it.
“He let his team down there.”
After scoring a brace on his Premier League debut against Arsenal in February, many were hoping Rashford to step up once again following Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s suspension.
He failed to make a convincing claim on Saturday afternoon and was often isolated upfront against Arsenal’s back four.
Rashford has played a vital role at Old Trafford this season, but at 19, he is bound to make some mistakes and shouldn’t be so heavily criticised for doing so.
