Pogba has endured a mixed return to Old Trafford and has been heavily criticised for some of his performances after becoming the world’s most expensive player during the summer.
He has scored just two goals in 11 Premier League appearances, but is beginning to produce more dominating displays in Mourinho’s new midfield setup.
Speaking about Pogba’s role, Mourinho confirms he has been playing with more freedom alongside Carrick and Herrera.
“Pogba is adapting much better in relationships, to the intensity of the competition, and he is much more confident,” he said.
“Obviously he plays with some guidelines over his position but at the same time with some freedom to occupy some attacking areas where he feels and thinks he can be important. He is comfortable on the pitch. That is the best way of saying it.
“Midfield is playing very well. Pogba, Carrick, Herrera, they are playing very well. The defenders – the way Jones and Marcos performed was so solid and confident. We defended high and we were compact when we had to be. It is a very good performance. I go home with the feeling that I lost against Arsenal in the Premier League.”
Pogba was always going to perform well in the Premier League, it was only a matter of everything clicking together, and it’s brilliant to see him finding his feet.
Mourinho had struggled to find his best XI at the club but it seems he has finally found the best midfield setup to get the best out of Pogba.
