Manchester United 4-0 Feyenoord: Player Ratings

by Leo Nieboer

Sergio Romero 7 – An overall tidy performance, gathering the ball smartly and distributing the ball well. Made an important double save before Jose Mourinho‘s men took the lead.

Antonio Valencia 7 – A characteristically powerful and reliable performance at right back from the Ecuadorian. Dealt with the potentially dangerous Eljero Elia all evening.

Phil Jones 6 – Solid for the third game in a row. Had a largely worry-free evening against an impotent Feyenoord side.

Daley Blind 6 – Made some clever balls forward and looked comfortable alongside Jones all evening, dealing with anything that fell his way.

Luke Shaw 6 – Worked incredibly hard all evening, bombing up and down the flank as Man United dominated from start to finish. Had little to do defensively.

Michael Carrick 7 – Another quietly composed, dictatorial display from the Englishman. Calmly controlled proceedings from the base of midfield.

Paul Pogba 8 – A simply explosive opening 20 minutes, followed by a commanding all-round display. Faultless on the ball, progressive going forward and packed with power – the kind of Pogba United fans will hope to see more often.

Wayne Rooney 8 – Perhaps the sharpest he’s looked all season: quick, smart on the ball and selfless, crowning an excellent performance with a well taken goal and a sumptuous assist for Mata. Perhaps the 31-year-old should get plastered more often?

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 8 – Put in a performance simply oozing with class. Truly mesmerising on the ball, always creating openings and exploiting space with American Sniper levels of precision. Simply has to play more.

Juan Mata 7 – Superb on the ball all evening, linking up wonderfully with United’s attacking quartet all evening. Displayed some smart movement to be in place for his goal.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6 – Sloppy in possession during the opening stages but improved as the game went on. Did well to forge United’s third of the evening.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford – Came on and instantly made things happen on the right hand side, picking up an assist minutes after being introduced. Made a series of powerful runs and smart passes forward.
