Manchester United kick-off against Feyenoord at 8.05pm tonight in the Europa League and here is the early team news we’re aware of.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to feature against the Dutch side and make potentially only his second start for Man United since joining from Borussia Dortmund this summer. Jose Mourinho confirmed Mkhitaryan will play Feyenoord in some capacity and for the life of me I can’t fathom a reason why that wouldn’t be from the start.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also available again having served his one match suspension against Arsenal following his yellow card against Swansea. With Marcus Rashford looking exhausted and Wayne Rooney being out of favour, Ibrahimovic may well return straight to the starting line-up.
Two players who may not feature at all are Marouane Fellaini and Chris Smalling as both are considered doubts. Smalling is yet to recover from his mysterious injury, believed to be a broken toe, and Fellaini has been sidelined with a calf injury he picked up on international duty with Belgium. In their absence, Phil Jones is expected to continue at centre-back while Morgan Schneiderlin will be more than ready to replace Michael Carrick in midfield.
Overall, United’s options are strong other than in defence where we are still struck by a number of injuries including Eric Bailly and Smalling as well as the likes of Luke Shaw who isn’t quite match sharp and Antonio Valencia who has just returned from surgery on his arm.
It’ll be interesting to see how strong a team Mourinho puts out because it is a must win game for United after losing away to both Feyenoord and Fenerbahce. With West Ham on Sunday, will Mourinho rotate his team?
