Henrikh Mkhitaryan delighted to play a vital role for Man United against Feyenoord

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has expressed his delight after receiving a rare opportunity to impress during Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Armenian missed out on the match-day squad against Arsenal, with Jose Mourinho claiming that the encounter with Arsene Wenger’s side was not the right game for someone struggling to cope with the pressures of life as a Man United player.

Mkhitaryan, however, was handed a chance to impress from the start against Feyenoord and dazzled the watching world with a mesmerising performance.

The 27-year-old took to social media after the game, enthusing over what was a close to perfect evening for Mourinho’s men.

Mourinho, after weeks of avoiding the issue, finally discussed the Mkhitaryan saga at length last week, revealing that the Armenian – in a similar way to his early days at Borussia Dortmund – was struggling to cope with the pressures of being a United player.

This is why Mkhitaryan’s performance against Feyenoord left me, above anything, in a state of complete confusion. How can a man supposedly sapped of confidence go out and produce a performance like that? Every action – a pass, a turn, a run – was performed with a touch of sheer class.

If this is what Mkhitaryan can do when struggling, the prospect of the seeing him in full flow is a truly heart-stopping prospect.
