Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Marcus Rashford will be the future of Manchester United.
The youngster enjoyed a simply mind-blowing debut campaign following his debut back in February, netting eight goals, claiming an FA Cup winner’s medal and earning a place in the England squad for Euro 2016.
Rashford has continued to serve as a fundamental aspect of Man United’s first team this season, making 15 appearances so far.
Keown, speaking earlier this week, was full of praise for the Rashford, predicting a big future at United for the Englishman.
“I can see next year being the handover from Ibrahimovic to Rashford – and I can see why Jose Mourinho would want both players available.
“How many 35-year-olds have played more games than Ibrahimovic this season?
“Rashford is the long-term solution but I still think Ibrahimovic has got something to offer. The way he looks after himself, he is a good role model for Rashford.
“There is a weight of pressure on being the centre forward at Manchester United and that needs to be shared.”
The 19-year-old, with Ibrahimovic absent through suspension, was handed just his second chance to start as a No.9 under Jose Mourinho against Arsenal.
And what United fans saw was exciting to say the least. Rashford offered a completely different dynamic to the big Swede, charging across the pitch with reckless abandon, refusing to give Arsenal’s back four a moment of peace.
His sheer liveliness and raw speed galvanised the entire side, giving rise to an emphatic, unyielding attacking display, packed with intent and vigour.
It was, above anything, a glimpse into the future, with Rashford confidently leading the line.
