Manchester United 4-1 West Ham: Player Ratings

by Leo Nieboer

David de Gea 5 – Failed to deal with the one piece of trouble that came his way in the first half. Had more or less nothing to do in the second period.

Antonio Valencia 8 – Another explosive performance from the seemingly indefatigable Ecuadorian. Bombed up and down the right hand side all evening with reckless abandon.

Phil Jones 7 – Produced a powerful, composed display, making several key challenges in the first half. Looked growingly comfortable as the game went on.

Marcos Rojo 7 – An astonishingly energetic display from the 26-year. Made some incredible challenges after busting a gut to tear across the pitch in time.

Luke Shaw 6 – Caught too high up the pitch on a few occasions, leaving space for West Ham’s front three to exploit. Still managed to comfortably deal with the potentially dangerous Michail Antonio. Forced off at half-time with an injury.

Michael Carrick 7 – Another Carrick start, another win. The Englishman, deployed at the base of midfield, once again formed the axis of a controlled, domineering display.

Ander Herrera 8 – Worked diligently alongside Carrick all evening, tearing across the pitch as his counterpart calmly dictated proceedings and pulled back a brilliant assist for Ibrahimovic in the closing minutes of the game.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 9 – Simply magnificent. A genuine pleasure to watch. Crowned a performance laced with technical brilliance with two sumptuous assists.

Wayne Rooney – Another dedicated, workman-like performance from the captain. Surprised many with his panache and composure on the ball, combining with Man United’s frontmen on a regular basis.

Anthony Martial 9 – Fearless, sprinting at opponents with reckless abandon, and scoring goals. This is the Martial United fans know and love.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 7 – Netted a crucial early goal for Jose Mourinho‘s men, creating a platform for an important victory. Linked up nicely with Mkhitaryan, Rooney and Martial on several occasions.

Daley Blind 6 – Came on at half time and enjoyed a largely trouble free 45 minutes as Slaven Bilic’s men began to wilt in the second half.
