The Dutchman, who has only made one start this season, has claimed that he would be open to a move away from Old Trafford if the right offer presented itself.
Various clubs – including the likes of Everton, Juventus and Napoli – have expressed an interest in the 22-year-old after being cast into anonymity by Jose Mourinho this season.
And according to Italian media outlet Corriere Dello Sport‘s Roberto Maida, Roma have also entered the race to secure Memphis’ signature.
The idea of Memphis leaving Man United after such a short, painful spell will always be met with a pang of resentment. This is, after all, a truly talented individual. One feels as if the Dutchman will continue to improve as he matures; the consistency that refuses to emerge in the youngster’s game will, rather naturally, begin to manifest itself in the coming years.
That said, United fans will have to question whether Old Trafford is the right place for Memphis. At times he feels largely invisible, consigned to the occasional substitute appearance. When was the last time he produced a moment of game-changing brilliance out of nowhere, right when his team needed it?
Memphis is, without doubt, an excellent player, but perhaps he needs a fresh start to fully blossom as a winger.
