Henrikh Mkhitaryan reacts to his spectacular performance against West Ham

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has expressed his delight following an excellent performance during Manchester United’s 4-1 win over West Ham United in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

The Armenian, making just his third start of the season, treated Man United fans to a truly mesmerising performance against Slaven Bilic’s side, producing a seemingly endless series of superb passes and turns going forward.

Mkhitaryan was handed his second Man of the Match award from both Sky Sports and the club’s official website.

The 27-year-old took to social media after the game to express his enthusiasm.

Watching Mkhitaryan eviscerate West Ham defenders at will, turning and passing with maximum precision, his exclusion from the starting XI – a full two months – feels almost criminal.

Of course, Mourinho didn’t arbitrarily omit the Armenian for so long out of spite. He made it clear, following the Arsenal game, that the 27-year-old was suffering from confidence issues, inundated by the burden of playing for a club of such magnitude.

But if Mkhitaryan is suffering from confidence issues, they haven’t filtered into his performances on the pitch. It was actually possible to see him grow in stature as the game went on. By the end, he was effectively toying with West Ham.
