Jose Mourinho has claimed he’s never managed a team with as much creativity as this Manchester United side.
Against West Ham we once again dominated and created chances aplenty but we improved how clinical we were in front of goal which led to a comfortable 4-1 victory.
Seeing as Mourinho has been in charge of Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Chelsea and FC Porto, it’s a big statement from the Portuguese manager.
“I’ve never had a team with such possession and with such creativity before but I’ve never had a team with so many draws,” he said.
“The performance is something we are used to, we are playing very well at home. Today was more of the same.
“After the West Ham goal we had 10 minutes where we felt it deeply. West Ham’s first shot, they equalise. But in the second half we got the confidence to play and play beautiful, attacking football.
“I told them at half time it is not possible to play so well and because of a goal stop to play so well. I told them to forget about the undeserved goal, we are playing so well, we have to keep the confidence and lets go on with it. Goals plus performance means the real happiness.”
One thing is for sure – the shadow of Louis van Gaal is slowly disappearing from Old Trafford. There has been a lot of frustration over dropped points but when it comes to performances, on the whole Man United have been excellent.
Piece by piece, United are coming together under Mourinho and fans will be more than patient with him when our performances and attacking is so impressive, even if the finishing and results haven’t matched that.
United are gathering pace this season and if we can string a run of wins together we’ll be back on track in the top four. However, that run has to come soon or we’ll be too far off to compete.
