The Frenchman made a sensational debut campaign last term when he scored 17 goals under Louis van Gaal and became the most expensive teenager in history at the time, joining Man United for £36m on deadline day in summer 2015.
Despite a shaky start to life under Jose Mourinho, Martial was back to his best against West Ham United in the EFL Cup, scoring a brace and terrifying Slaven Bilic’s defence.
Speaking about Martial, Carrick claims there is much more to come from him.
“The ability and attributes he has got are frightening at times,” he said.
“When he is on fire he is a threat for anyone.
“He started the game terrifically well (against West Ham). He grew as the game went on. It is great to see him playing like that. He is fully confident and believing.
“There is plenty more to come from him, which is a good sign for us.”
Martial has struggled to re-find his form from last season and was also dropped from Didier Deschamps’ French squad, but hopes are his goals can give him a much-needed confidence boost moving forward.
He was almost undroppable last campaign but he’ll have to work hard to keep his place in the side, as he’s already seen, competition is stiff for a place in the side.
