Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels has urged Jose Mourinho to give ex-Borussia Dortmund teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan more time at Manchester United.
While Hummels has moved on from the Westfalenstadion and become a regular starter for Bayern Munich, Mkhitarayn has endured a shaky start to life at Old Trafford.
With only two starts in the Premier League since September, Mkhitaryan has only recently begun to find his feet under the Portuguese boss and Hummels feels he should start more often to get the best out of the Armenian midfielder.
“If you let him play, you will see how good he is. I am 100 per cent sure of this. He is one of the best I have played with,” he told the Daily Mail.
“But if you can’t play, you can’t shine. It’s easy! It’s really easy! I saw part of the game against Feyenoord.
“I saw part of the game against West Ham. There he was – always good, as he is always when he is on the pitch. He played at that level (raises his hands) all of last year.”
He has struggled to adapt with the intensity of the Premier League since his £26million switch to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, but he also had a hard time settling during the start of his career at Dortmund.
Thomas Tuchel helped him overcome his issues and it seems Mourinho has given him the same chance by easing him into football at Man United.
The Armenian has showcased his talent on the main stage and I hope to see him in the starting XI more often following his solid performances.
