Peter Schmeichel has urged Manchester United to sign Dimitri Payet in the January transfer window.
Man United have created plenty of chances but have struggled to score goals under Jose Mourinho this season, leaving them sixth in the Premier League ahead of the Christmas period.
He has only bagged one league goal this term following his impressive debut campaign, even though he’s created more chances this year for West Ham than any other rival.
Speaking about the squad, Schmeichel claims a move for Payet would be seriously beneficial.
“He’s a Manchester United-type player, for sure,” he said.
“I think Mourinho has to change his way a little bit to please the fans, the club and the traditions of the club. I think he is showing signs of that, the players that he is signing, they are of a different calibre.
“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is someone he probably wouldn’t have signed had he been at Chelsea, but he’s United’s kind of player, the kind the supporters like to see. He’s rewarding us with great skills and great goals – I think he has scored seven goals so far.
“But Payet? Definitely if he can find the form he showed during the Euros.”
According to the Times, he will be able to leave the club for £15m should West Ham, who are currently struggling with one point above the drop zone, be relegated.
He currently earns £125,000 a week after signing a new five and a half year contract last February and would be a solid investment for Mourinho.
It remains to be seen whether we’ll see him in a United shirt, but at £15m there will be massive competition for his services.
