Ander Herrera has expressed his admiration for Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese ran on to the pitch to congratulate every single player following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
Mourinho, usually a reserved figure on the touchline, bursted on to the pitch at full-time to celebrate with his players.
Herrera was full of praise for his manager’s evident enthusiasm following what was an important victory.
“You saw him. Even more in the dressing room, he is so passionate and thinks the same as us – that we deserve to have more points and that is why he was so happy,” he said.
“We are so happy because we showed our spirit, this was not our best game but even on a day where we didn’t play our best game we created six or seven chances.”
Mourinho purposely went up to every single player at full-time, embracing his men with a real air of pride and warmth. It was the clearest indicator yet that, despite their lukewarm opening to this year’s Premier League campaign, they were all in this together, collectively striving towards the same cause.
This is what the Special One, for all his criticism, manages to cultivate: an unbreakable sense of solidarity and collective spirit, instilling the shared notion that every player, even when they don’t feature, has a fundamental role to play in this side’s pursuit of glory.
