Anthony Martial claims his lack of consistency is a big problem that is holding him back at Manchester United.
The 21-year-old was signed in a big deal from Monaco just over a year ago and despite an impressive start to life at Old Trafford hasn’t featured much under Jose Mourinho.
He was one of our most influential attackers last season, but has failed to establish himself in the first-team since Mourinho took over in May.
Speaking prior to the game against West Brom, the Frenchman claimed his lack of endurance has hampered his performances for United.
“I think consistency is my big problem,” he said.
“I have a tendency to have a good 35 minutes, and I drop in the last 15.
“I think it’s mostly an endurance thing. I’ve improved my endurance a lot, but I know that if I improve it even more, I’ll be able to progress.”
Martial has struggled this season and was even dropped from France’s squad by Didier Deschamps in November.
With others on the side also performing, he’s found it hard to fight his way into the squad, but hopes are he gets some game time soon as he’s one of our promising players for the future.
It’s great that he’s been able to highlight the problem and there’s no doubt that he’ll be working to pick himself up.
