He has seriously kickstarted his career under the Portuguese boss and has made the right-back role his own after a series of impressive displays.
The Ecuadorian was voted as the club’s Player of the Month for November, showcasing his importance to the side even though he had only just returned from surgery.
Speaking about his new found form, he claims it’s all about being more focused under Mourinho than his predecessor Louis van Gaal.
“I guess I’ve got to hold my hands up for my first season, when Mr Van Gaal first started to play me more regularly at right-back,” Valencia said.
“I made one or two mistakes in that role and some of those mistakes were maybe down to me not concentrating 100 per cent all the time.
“So one area where I have tried to improve is my concentration and always being totally focused.
“Michael [Carrick] referred to my positional sense, and I have been working hard on where I need to be in certain situations.
“That, and my concentration, are the two areas I have tried to work on.”
He’s been absolutely incredible under Mourinho this campaign and has cemented his place in the starting XI as a fan favourite.
Hopes are he can keep fit and continue his impressive form moving forward as he’s been an indispensable member of the squad so far.
