Arjen Robben urges Jose Mourinho to give Memphis Depay more time

Arjen Robben insists he expects Memphis Depay to prove himself if he manages to secure a move away from Manchester United.

The Dutchman failed to impress at Old Trafford following his move for PSV in 2015 as he was left on the bench by Louis van Gaal and he hasn’t been able to establish himself under Jose Mourinho.

He is expected to leave Man United in January and has been linked with a move to Everton in January, while some Serie A sides are also said to be interested.

Speaking about his situation, Robben believes he’ll be able to recover if he joins another club.

“He is a very talented player,” he said. “It’s a pity it didn’t work at Manchester until now. He’s playing very few matches. I’m expecting something to happen next time, maybe he will make a move in the winter break.”

He attracted plenty of attention during his time in the Eredivisie and after his displays in the 2014 World Cup, was expected to have a massive impact at Old Trafford.

Memphis has failed to live up to expectations since his arrival and it’s disappointing, especially after he’s showcased glimpses of his ability last season, particularly in Europe.

Hopes are he can find somewhere to pick up game time, but allowing him to leave permanently at this stage of his career, could be a bad decision for Mourinho.
