He was booed by a section of fans when he came on in the win vs Tottenham Hotspur following his mistake in his previous substitute appearance, giving away a penalty seven days earlier in the 1-1 draw at Everton.
The Portuguese boss gave Fellaini his full backing in his press conference after the game, and when he was warmly applauded by United’s fans at the Hawthorns, Mourinho was a very happy man.
“The fans are fantastic,” he said.
“They had just an impulsive reaction because of Marouane’s naïve reaction against Everton but they know that Marouane is a guy.
“He gives absolutely everything – inside the dressing room people love the guy and it’s important for him to get that good feeling of knowing the fans are behind [him].”
Fellaini came on in the 84th minute to help close out the lead against Everton and gave away a penalty to give Everton the 1-1 draw.
However, it seems he has learnt from his mistake and did a brilliant job of holding onto the victory against West Brom.
With others on the side performing extremely well, it’s hard to think about where he’d find a place in the starting XI, but Mourinho has faith in him and it looks like he’ll be a vital player for the Portuguese boss.
